Other services

Some of the other areas where your physiotherapist can help.

We offer a range of other services, including:

Foot Orthotics

The foot and ankle is needed to propel us for every step we take. The ankle and foot complex is made up of 22 bones, which form 33 joints. This complex mechanism, which works in 3 D motion, must be finely tuned and working efficiently in order to do this. Ankle fractures, ankle sprains, flat feet (over pronation), high arched feet (supinated foot), metatarsalgia, bunions, plantar fasciitis, shin splints, achilles tendonitis/ tendinopathy are some examples of problems that can occur around the foot and ankle.

Orthotics are insoles that may be prescribed to correct the biomechanics of the foot and lower limb. Orthotic devices can vary from simple, inexpensive off-the shelf devices to hand made bespoke customised insoles. Our physiotherapists have post graduate training in this area. Our goal is to provide a device that best suits your needs and budget.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a technique used to treat pain arising from pain sensitive muscles, which involves placing a sterile fine needle into a tender point. These tender points can be painful to touch and can produce significant pain over a large area. They may also be too deep to be effectively treated by other treatment techniques. Dry needling treatment is often less painful.

Dry Needling can be used for:

  • Headaches

  • Neck and back pain, and stiffness

  • Tight Hamstrings and calf muscles

  • Tennis elbow

  • Shoulder and hip pain

Occupational Health

Work-related injuries can be caused by obvious accidents, such as slips, trips and falls, but more often they're caused by overuse of various body parts. Whatever the cause, identifying and controlling the risks can reduce these injuries.

Chartered Physiotherapists working in Occupational Health (OH) have specialist knowledge in the field of work-related injury management. A Chartered Physiotherapist is an integral member of a team dealing with prevention and treatment of work-related musculoskeletal disorders and the evaluation of an individual’s capacity to work at a given job. Chartered Physiotherapists can also assist companies to comply with Health and Safety legislation particularly regarding Manual Handling regulations and Visual Display Unit regulations.

Common work-related problems are:

  • Back and neck pain.

  • Work-related upper limb disorders (WRULD) including repetitive strain injury (RSI) and carpal tunnel syndrome.

  • Manual handling injuries particularly back injuries in the industrial and healthcare sector

  • Industrial or farming accidents.

  • Hand injuries.

  • Problems arising from workstation design or incorrect use of equipment.

Arthritis Management

What is arthritis?

Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints, such as our elbow, shoulder or knee. This can cause pain, heat and stiffness in your joints and can affect people of all ages. In Ireland, it currently affects one in five people. There are over 100 types of arthritis, but the most common forms are osteoarthritis (OA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and fibromyalgia. Arthritis has no cure but its symptoms can be successfully managed with exercise, weight loss, lifestyle changes and appropriate medication.

What will happen when I visit a physiotherapist?

Your physiotherapist will work with you to develop a safe, personalised exercise plan that's right for you. This may involve some strengthening and stretching exercises. It will also include general activities such as walking, swimming or whatever you enjoy that's beneficial to you. The aim of treatment is to manage pain, keep joints mobile and help you stay active and healthy.

Pilates

Pilates is for everyBODY.

“Whatever you do, sit at a desk all day, play golf, attend the gym, rugby, pre/post surgery - Pilates is suitable for you. I often describe Pilates as the required strong roots to your health and fitness. And just like an oak tree, you need strong roots’’ Niamh McCarthy, Renu Physiotherapist.

Pilates is much more than just an exercise regime. It teaches you how to move and where to move your body from. For example have you ever done tummy crunches and suffered neck pain, with no or little improvement to your abs? Or are you a golfer who suffers from low back pain? In Pilates an experienced trainer will teach you how to move your body correctly. Once you move correctly you get those great abs and those workout results that you desire. You can also expect to reduce a lot of pain by now moving your body correctly – a double benefit. That’s why the Pilates Method continues to be endorsed by physiotherapists, physical therapists, osteopaths, surgeons and GPs.

Functional Movement Training

Functional movement training is an approach in which you train your muscles before moving to work together and prepare them for daily tasks by simulating common movements you might do at home, at work or in sports.

Your Physiotherapist will assess functional movements that are individual to your story and your thoughts on this movements and ensure a targeted individualised movement training plan. Helping you to renu and move better.
