Pre and Post Operative Care

Keep strong before and after surgery to aid recovery and reduce pain.

Pre Operative care to help prepare & recover

Surgery often comes with a waiting period. During this waiting time muscles around the area in question can become unfit with restrictions in movement resulting from soft tissue tightness and changes in the way you move. Pre operative Physiotherapy can limit these effects. Physiotherapy intervention before your operation can also help you keep strong to aid recovery post your operation. Additionally, ‘prehab’ (rehab prior to surgery) results in a quicker recovery after surgery, often with less pain.

Post operative care to return to full function

Depending on the nature of surgery and the length of post-operative care required, there will always be a certain level of swelling, pain, reduced range of movement and muscle wasting. Time to recovery following surgery depends on a number of factors. While age and pre-operative conditioning levels are important indicators, the type of surgery can have an influence too.

Our Physiotherapists are experienced in post-operative care and work in accordance with orthopaedic guidelines in assisting patients return to full function and strength. We communicate closely with surgical teams as required.
